Founded in 2010, Instagram has become one of the largest and rapidly growing social networks in the world today. In my previous article, I shared that Instagram exceeded 300 million monthly active users in the last period of 2014.
It is a remarkable development that this figure, which was 200 million in March last year, increased to 300 million in just 10 months. 70 million photos are shared daily on Instagram, which was bought by Facebook 2 years ago.
This success of Instagram is of course not luck. The following statistical study by Econsultancy on Instagram, which is growing rapidly, shows how important this platform is.
- Instagram has 300 million active users
- 70% of these users are from outside the US
- A total of 30 billion photos have been shared on Instagram since its founding
- The number of photos shared daily is 70 million and the number of photo likes is 2.5 billion
Daily Usage Statistics
- Instagram users spend an average of 21 minutes a day on Instagram. This is quite a long time for a photo-only application.
The Demographics of Users
- In the second quarter of 2014, 20% of internet users between the ages of 16 and 64 have an Instagram account.
- Instagram is a very popular application among young people. 41% of users aged 16-24 and 35% of users aged 24-32 use Instagram.
- 51% of Instagram users are male, and 49% are female.
The general feature of social media platforms is to increase the number of users first and then to create a revenue model, which is generally based on advertising.
Instagram started testing the advertising model in the United States towards the end of 2013. The first advertiser brand was Michael Kors, and the number of likes it received from normal times had quadrupled with the ads. Michael Kors, who interacted with 6.15 million people worldwide, gained 33,000 followers, 16 times better than normal times.
In the UK last year, Instagram started testing its advertising efforts with Starbucks, Cadbury, Estee Lauder, Waitrose, Channel 4 and Rimmel.
Those who use Instagram on a daily basis know that the interaction in the form of likes created by Instagram is quite high and effective.
Top Brands on Instagram
If you want to compare popular brands on Instagram, you can check the list prepared by Totem here.
By number of followers, the most popular brands of Instagram are National Geographic with 10.3 million followers, Nike with 10.1 million followers, and 9GAGwith 9.1 million users > companies.
On the other hand, considering the user statistics that share companies as hashtag, Nike ranks first, Adidas and Starbucks and in third place.
According to Socialbakers, brands and companies that use Instagram show higher engagement on Instagram compared to Twitter.
When the 25 brands with the best interaction are examined, the interaction rate per share is 3.31 on Instagram, while this figure is 0.07 on Twitter.
In addition to this information, while the average interaction created by profiles is 19 million on Instagram, this figure is 502,000 on Twitter.
However, it is useful to draw attention to some points regarding this comparison:
Primarily, when compared to the posts made as text, the rate of interest of photo shares is quite high.
Photo sharing is the most popular content, as seen in other major social media platforms, and Instagram has a very serious advantage in this regard.
Also, it’s easier to double-click a shared photo to like it than to retweet the post.
